Brigita Stroda is an artist whose preferred mode of expression is the crown. The human head is her stage and thus she calls her work “micro-scenography”. Her subjects come from many diverse sources, like, elements that are figuratively “coming out of the head”, Latvian wedding crowns and folk songs, or stories that emerge from diverse materials and found objects that come her way.
There is a second aspect to Brigita’s artistic practise. She is committed to sharing crown making workshops with the general public where themes like personal power, identity and one’s inner voice come to the fore. These are the areas we will explore during our time in Oulu, and each participant will make and keep their own crown and enjoy a little journey through the history of crowns as well as a look at the contemporary context of power along the way.
