Oulu is the European Capital of Culture for the year 2026. Oulu and the entire northern Finland will be filled with culture, art, and events in the coming years. Northern Finland will rise to the world map in an unprecedented way as Finnish and international cultural experts create something new in cities, countryside, and nature. It is a journey spanning several years, culminating in the year 2026.
Remixing Folk Feminism is a week-long programme that will involve lectures and workshops in the Oulu region.
Programme events will take place in Linnanmaa-Kaijonharju area, City center and Pikisaari with additional events located in other residential areas. Programming will take place in areas that are easily accessed from different parts of Oulu by public transport, making content available to participants all over the city. Organising the events in different locales enables the programme to reach targeted audiences and communities, outside of formal learning environments.
In Remixing Folk Feminism, participants will produce creative outputs which the workgroup will curate, extending the communal folk feminist practice to new audiences through an exhibition. We are interested in available exhibition slots at the Valve galleries in Oulu to house the exhibition arising from this work.
